Meet Dr. Joe Schwerdtfeger

Dr. Schwerdtfeger (Dr. Joe to our patients) is a lifelong native of Johnson County. Dr Joe opened his practice at Overland Park Eye Center in 1994 after many years of practicing in Kansas City, MO. He attended the University of Kansas for undergraduate work. In 1986 he graduated with a Doctorate in Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL. He also maintains several certificates in LASIK consultation, contact fitting, dry eye syndrome, and other medical eye care. He is a current member of both the Kansas Optometric Association (KOA) and the American Optometric Association (AOA).

To keep current on all of the newest technology and research available Dr. Joe participates in continuing education classes all over the country each year. He applies these new techniques and treatments to his practice everyday to ensure his patients are getting the best possible care. Dr. Joe consults with pharmaceutical companies, Contact Lens manufacturers, and our lens and frame suppliers to ensure that our patients are fitted with the most advanced optical products.

In his free time Dr. Joe enjoys spending time with his Wife Susan and their three children Tyler, Scott, and Megan as well as their dog Maddy. Most Saturdays you can find him coaching one of his kid's teams or on a soccer field or basketball game cheering them on. He is also an avid sports fan and enjoys catching games with friends. In addition Dr. Joe enjoys traveling and skiing with his family and friends.
